Installation
What to expect....
Our installation procedure follows N.W.F.A. (http://www.woodfloors.org) guidelines using the most effective and up-to-date equipment and materials in the industry. We work exclusively with site finished flooring. We do not work with pre-finished products.
In order to ensure the stability of the floor, our nailing frequency is every 4" to 6" and within 2" from every butt joint. Custom Borders & Designs.... Borders, inlays and custom designs can easily be incorporated into the floor with relatively little cost, resulting in a uniquely crafted floor you can be proud of. Designs include log cabin borders, herringbone patterns, medallion inlays and other custom shapes. There are virtually endless options with regard to wood species, widths and grades to create the exact look that you want. We would be pleased to consult with you regarding any design ideas you may have. Acclimation.... It is crucial that new flooring be acclimated to the environment in which it is to be installed. This process usually takes 2 weeks. We check moisture content of the sub-floor and the flooring to ensure that the process is complete. Wood is by nature hydroscopic, which simply means that it will expand or contract dependant on moisture content. Hardwood flooring is usually received from the distributors at a moisture level of 8%. The common home, in the Puget Sound region, ranges from 8-10% in the winter and 10-12% in the summer. For this reason a small amount of expansion and contraction is to be expected on any floor.
